If your QuickBooks Online company uses classes for business units — Repair, Install, Maintenance, Electrical — Run a Call can tag every synced invoice line with the right class. Then Profit & Loss by Class in QuickBooks splits your revenue by division with no manual coding.
Before you start
- Turn on class tracking in QuickBooks: Account and settings → Advanced → Categories → Track classes, and create your classes there.
- Set up your job types in Run a Call (Settings → Tags & Job Types) — the class is chosen by job type.
If QuickBooks isn't tracking classes yet, the Class tracking section says "Your QuickBooks isn't tracking classes yet". Turn it on in QuickBooks, then click I've turned it on — refresh.
Open the class settings
Go to Settings → Integrations → QuickBooks Online → Manage, expand Sync settings & account mapping, and scroll to Class tracking in the QuickBooks Settings card. (If you connected after turning on classes, you already did this in the Classes setup step.)
Map job types to classes
Each of your job types has a picker. Choose the QuickBooks class its invoices should carry, or leave it on Default class. Use the refresh icon if you just created a class in QuickBooks.
Pick a default class and a membership class

Save
Click Save Settings. Invoices synced from now on carry the class on every line.
How a class is chosen

If nothing is set, lines simply carry no class — nothing breaks. If you later turn class tracking off in QuickBooks, Run a Call stops sending classes.
The same rules apply to purchase orders synced as Bills, so materials cost lands under the same division — see Syncing purchase orders.
Good to know
- Changing a mapping doesn't rewrite the past. Invoices already in QuickBooks keep their class until they're edited and re-synced.
- A class deleted or renamed in QuickBooks? Invoices that use it are held back with "a QuickBooks class was deleted or renamed". Re-pick a class here and save — the held invoices are retried automatically.
